We offer an insulated mail slot cover , also referred to as a draft proof mail slot cover.
It mounts on the inside of a wood, metal or composite door with screws into the door. The product frame is large enough that if the pre-marked holes don't work for you for some reason, you can easily drill other mounting holes.
This product can also work for exterior use but you may want to change out the screws and nuts to stainless steel. The Aluminum hinge will be fine outdoors as will the material for the flap and mounting plate.
While this looks like a logical and straightforward solution to a significant energy management problem, it has not been offered by others for decades because:
This can not be mass produced. You need to think of this as a hand -made item even though a CNC Router is used to cut the front and back flap.
The seal mounting requires hand work and the type of seal required isn't conducive for a single piece seal in a cost effective manner.
The moving door flap may need to be flexed a little to get the best seal possible.
The magnet position may need slight adjust for the best seal.
Thus, this product requires hand tweaking during assembly for optimal performance. Once it's performing it should not require more adjustment but if it does that can be done.
The material we are using for the flap and back plate is a 1/8" thick commercial sign material that is a veneer of aluminum over a plastic core. We've used the product out of context from traditional sign fabrication. It would not have been an obvious choice for most designers and the ability to slightly bend it with minimal force and have it hold it's shape was a requirement for the system to work in an optimal manner
The design balance between hinge choice, seal height and magnet catch system took time to figure out and the magnet position may require some slight tweaking for optimal seal.
From a functional perspective, this solution far surpasses anything else on the market now and nothing new has been introduced since the 2000's due to the nuances of this application. Please see our Competitive Analysis page to understand how this compares to other products.
developing a magnet closing
The material is one of the keys the key to offering this tyep of product. No other material would have worked as well, because you may need to bend or flext the front plate slighly to get the best seal possible and no otehr material we can identify offers the abilty to flex with a finished surface that is not disturbed by flexing.
Features:
Heavy Duty Aluminum Hinge
Custom 1/8" aluminum faced, plastic core sign material that allows for the slight bending of the material to create and optimal seal
Bolt on front and back plate vs adhesive, such that no adhesion issues or flap wear should affect the flap
8mm D shaped rubber seal
Commercial magnet with screw on core so again, no adhesive to break off. if the magnet force is too strong, it can be adjusted with a piece of electrical tape or you can change out the washers under it to change the spacing a little.
The knob on the front plate actually doubles as a weight to help the door to close and the knob screw is what is attracted to the magnet to keep the door closed. latch to the magnet.
Sizes:
We currently offer 1 size - and that is for openigns that are approximately 11.5" x 2.75"
Finishes:
Brushed aluminum flap with white interior surfaces. The brushed aluminum is not sealed. You can use sandpaper or steal wool to change the design. If you'd like to seal it, spray it with some clear lacquer

We do not sell the sleaves for the door. See link below
